Mark Koltko-Rivera, Ph.D.

Foresight

Dr. Koltko-Rivera holds a professional certificate in strategic foresight from the College of Technology at the University of Houston.


Dr. Koltko-Rivera has long shown a professional interest in future-oriented topics. His papers on these issues include:


  • "The Potential Societal Impact of Virtual Reality"
  • "Psychological Strategies for the Defence Against Terrorism" [a presentation at a NATO conference]
  • "The Potential Societal Impact of Augmented Cognition" 
  • "Psychology of Some 21st Century Issues: Longevity, Genetic Engineering, Hardship"

Psychology

Dr. Koltko-Rivera holds a doctoral degree from the Department of Applied Psychology at New York University. At the undergraduate level, he majored in psychology at Haverford College.


Dr. Koltko-Rivera has long made important contributions to psychology; for this reason, he is an elected Fellow of the American Psychological Association. His papers in the field include:


  • "The Psychology of Worldviews" [Cited 1,100+ times in the professional literature. Dr. Koltko-Rivera received the first of two Miller Awards for best article in general psychology for this article.]
  • "The Worldview Construct and Peace Psychology"
  • "Religions Influence Worldviews; Worldviews Influence Behavior: A Model with Research Agenda"
  • "Rediscovering the Later Version of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: Self-Transcendence ..." [1,400+ citations. Dr. Koltko-Rivera received his second Miller Award for this article--as shown in the photo to the right.]

Quantitative Analysis

Dr. Koltko-Rivera has taught basic statistics (12 sections), research methods (1 section), and advanced research methods (1 section) to undergraduates and graduate students. 


His own quantitative research projects include:


  • "The Worldview Assessment Instrument (WAI): Development and Validation." Dr. Koltko-Rivera's doctoral dissertation involved the application of factor analysis and other psychometric analysis to data from over 700 participants.
  • "The Entry Psychiatric Screen (EPS): A Psychiatric Screening Procedure for Applicants for Military Service." This project, commissioned by the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense, involved the application of discriminant analysis and other psychometric analysis to data from over 400 participants.
